Word Game Guide
The Most Common Letters in English Words
Letter frequency is a guide, not a command. Common letters help early, while the actual board should control every later guess.
Put the strategy into practice
Play unlimited rounds, choose your difficulty and test the ideas from this guide in solo, multiplayer or team mode.
Common vowels and consonants
E and A are especially useful vowels, while R, T, N, S and L appear frequently in everyday English. Combining these letters often produces informative early guesses.
Position matters too. Some letters are common at the beginning of words, while others appear frequently in endings such as -ER, -ED or -ST.
Rare letters become useful later
Q, J, X and Z are poor default opening choices, but they can become the best candidates after common letters disappear. The board always outranks the average frequency list.
Expert difficulty is useful practice because less obvious vocabulary makes this adjustment more important.
Use frequency without guessing mechanically
Choose common letters to gather information, then switch to positional logic. A less common word that fits every clue is more valuable than a popular word that contradicts the board.
Unlimited rounds help these patterns become instinctive.
